OSC Faculty Subsite
Overview & Challenge
While the main College of Optical Sciences website was built in Drupal, I was frequently asked by faculty, staff and students for their own personal OSC websites. Working with the College’s IT department, we installed WordPress multisite, and I created a custom-coded theme that matched the current University of Arizona branding. This multisite was simple to manage and I could easily set up as many small sites as needed for faculty, staff, and student clubs.
Each subsite admin was trained in WordPress, and it was very “hands-off” for me except for specific requests such as message boards, custom forms, etc.
Audience
All internal students, staff, faculty and alumni of the University of Arizona Wyant College of Optical Sciences.
Approach
As with all website work I do, the project starts with a thorough site audit to ensure navigation and page hierarchy is clear and concise. Once that is complete, wireframes are supplied to the client showing the home page and a couple sample internal pages (depending on needs). The next step is static design comps created in InDesign/Illustrator/Photoshop and once that is approved, the final sight is built using a custom theme coded by me in the WordPress CMS. Training is also provided for the client so they can edit the site themselves.
