Overview & Challenge
Catalina Brewing Company, located in Marana, Arizona (just north of Tucson) was formed by two of my good friends during a mountain biking race. Hank was a amateur home-brewer whose beers were growingn in popularity, especially among the local mountain biker scene. Hank and Brian, while sitting around the campfire at 2 a.m. during the Epic Rides 24 Hours in the Old Pueblo, decided to go legit and Catalina Brewing Company was born.
They tasked me with coming up with a logo which they had concepted and drawn on a napkin. While I didn’t have complete creative freedom with the logo, I designed it to their specifications and from that point on, have designed the vast majority of their items. Everything from signage, beer and can labels, t-shirts, cycling jerseys, tap and keg labels, and more.
CBC has brown to be one of Tucson’s premier micro-breweries and has won numerous awards for their southwest-inspired beers.
Audience
Primarily faculty, staff and students at the College of Optical Sciences.
Approach
The clients and I both wanted all CBC material to showcase the beautiful Tucson desert, specifically the colors of the incredible sunsets. A deep purple is the dominant color, with bright oranges and yellows as secondary colors. The typefaces are inspired by 60’s Hollywood movie posters.

Overview & Challenge
Catalina Brewing Company was founded by two mountain bikers and was heavily involved in the MTB scene, especially in local races hosted by Epic Rides. Each year I designed a Catalina Brewing Company team jersey Epic Ride’s 24-Hours in the Old Pueblo race.
Audience
Local Tucson and visiting mountain biker riders all attending the 24-Hours in the Old Pueblo Race
Approach
Using Catalina Company’s existing branding (which I created from the ground up), I wanted to design a striking jersey that incorporated the stunning visual of Tucson along with the experience of mountain biking in the desert. One of the most expressed opinions by many racers was the joy of racing and the beauty of the desert during their sunrise/sunset laps.

Overview & Challenge
These Crowler labels were created and printed in batches, then hand applied by employees after they filled and sealed each Crowler. A blank space on the side was used so the type of beer, APV and date would be written by the employee.

Catalina Brewing Company Growler Kit.
Overview & Challenge
Catalina Brewing Company wanted to promote their new Growler Kit, which included a growler filled with their favorite CBC brew, as well as the pint glasses. The cardboard kit was limited to one color, which was both challenging and fun. I was not included in the decision for the color of the pint glasses, which I was disappointed with. I would have gone with a different color than red.
Audience
All fans and Catalina Brewing Company clientele.
Approach
Utilizing CBC’s branding (which I created and maintained from the start), I created this kit using the client’s chosen promotional vendor.

Overview & Challenge
Branding an entire micro-brewery was a really fun and creative experience. For this particular project, the client needed a large label for the tops of their kegs. The circular logo and theme worked wonderfully for this keg label, especially with the bike cog.

Catalina Brewing Company employees and customers who purchased CBC kegs.
