About

THE BASICS

I was born and raised in Flagstaff, Arizona when kids could play and ride bikes in the forest from sunrise to sunset without any fear. In hindsight, I realize how lucky I was growing up in such an atmosphere.

From an early age, I loved to draw and paint. My parents tell me that to get a moment of peace, all they had to do was hand me a pad of paper and a few pens, and I’d entertain myself for hours.

I never wavered from that passion for art as I made my way through high school, and college. It was in college at the University of Arizona in Tucson that my focus shifted slightly from illustration to graphic design. I studied under award-winning instructors David Christiana and Jackson Boelts, as well as alongside incredibly talented artists such as Adam Rex (creator of The True Meaning of Smeckday… later made into the Dreamworks animated movie Home), comic artist extraordinaire Jon Morris, and We The Robots comic creator, Chris Harding.

CAREER

I have maintained an award-winning freelance graphic design business since graduating from the University of Arizona in 1995. During this time, I held full-time positions with a wide variety of businesses from non-profits, advertising/pr agencies, and higher education. My clients encompass personal and small businesses, non-profits, religious organizations, conferences, city and state governments, and universities.

I am known for being responsive and the having the ability to understand and execute complex directions with speed and professionalism. I love to take large amounts of information and design solutions that are clean and easy to understand, such as publications, journals, catalogs and magazines.

FAMILY LIFE

My wife Trish and I met at the advertising agency in Tucson where we both worked, and we liken ourselves to Pam and Jim from The Office. We were married in October of 2010, and have two boys, now 11 and seven (as of 2024). Pursuing Trish’s blossoming career in the Tech industry, we moved from Tucson to Woodinville, Washington (a small town about 12 miles away from Seattle) in late 2017. We immediately fell in love with the area, the weather (even the rain) and the people.

As wall as maintaining my freelance career, I am primary caregiver to our two boys and deaf Boston Terrier, Biscuit, and a Ragdoll kitten named Cookie.

In my spare time (ha!) I love to mountain bike, paint/draw for leisure (see my Etsy Shop), tinker on my classic 1965 Mustang, and, inspired by one of my musical heroes (Geddy Lee) I’m slowly teaching myself the bass guitar.
